One of the world's greatest golfers has designed one of the game's
most spectacular and enchanting challenges. Set against the stunning
backdrop of the snow-capped Santa Rosa Mountains, Shadow Ridge is
Nick Faldo's first U.S. design. Faldo's vast international experience
and passion for strategic design are clearly in evidence at Marriott's
Shadow Ridge. The course draws inspiration from the great sand-belt
courses of Australia, notably Kingston Heath and Royal Melbourne.
It boasts generous fairways with impressively bold bunkering. The
greens are characterized by subtle undulations surrounded by tightly
mown collection areas and strategic greenside bunkers that reward
and encourage a variety of approach shots. Faldo's goal here was
to create a golf course that looks different and plays differently
from all other courses in the desert. The result is a design that
not only tests a player's skill, but also their imagination and
character.
