Mayfair Country Club, Sanford, Florida
Mayfair
is a classic design that the golf traditionalist will adore. Built
in 1919 by the city of Sanford, FL and designed by one of the most
prolific architects of that era, Donald Ross, this facility maintains
the charm of the roaring 20's in the new millennium. It was originally
named Sanford Country Club and a stop of the early PGA Tour. Walter
Hagen and Gene Sarazen established the original course record in
1925 when they both shot 65. Some of the other greats that have
competed here include Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Julius Boros, Tommy
Bolt, Bob Goalby, Dow Finsterwald, Don January, Doug Sanders, Bob
Toski, Al Balding, Doug Ford, Jim Ferree, Mike Fetchick, Ed Furgol,
Dave Marr, Tony Lema, and Moe Norman. Still today, Mayfair Country
Club is regarded as one of the most enjoyable courses to play in
Central Florida.
