Tom Fazio came back to Barton Creek to design Canyons Golf Course,
the resort's newest course opened in 2000. According to Golfweek
he must have done a pretty good job as they named it the "#1
course in Texas." The designer used twice as much acreage as
he did on the Foothills Course (completed in 1986) with larger landing
areas and bigger greens. However, the genius of Fazio is apparent
in the subtleties of the putting surfaces and the use of the natural
terrain. In fact, the design is so environmentally friendly that
it is one of the first courses in the country with the Signature
designation in the Certified Audubon Sanctuary System. Located just
two miles from the main clubhouse, Canyons has it's own proshop
and practice area.
